2Way Messaging

Complete the Communications Loop
Introducing SkyTel 2-Way Messaging, the alphanumeric paging service that lets subscribers originate messages and respond to messages right from their pagers by using an on-screen keyboard.

Comparable to SkyTel's SkyWriter® service, SkyTel 2-Way Messaging subscribers can create new messages, respond to messages they've received, and send Internet e-mail messages-all from their paging device. And this type of messaging service is truly interactive because they can send messages via the internet to people who do not have pagers.

Three Service Levels
SkyTel 2-Way Messaging always lets subscribers know their current level of service-whether they're in a car, a subway, or an airplane-by displaying one of the following on the pager:

  • Full Service - The subscriber is in a full service coverage area. This means the subscriber will receive all new incoming messages (up to 500 characters) and any undelivered, stored messages. In addition, replies can be sent and messages originated from the two-way pager.
  • Basic Service - The subscriber is in a basic service coverage area and will receive all new incoming messages, but not any undelivered, stored messages. Undelivered, stored messages will automatically be delivered to the pager when the subscriber returns to a full service area. Note: Subscribers can send replies and originate messages only when in a full service coverage area.
  • Storing Messages - The subscriber is outside of a any coverage area and all messages will be stored for up to 72 hours. Those stored messages are automatically delivered upon return to a full service area -- each with an original date and time stamp. Note: Subscribers can send replies and originate messages only when in a full service coverage area.

Regardless of the service level displayed on the pager, Message Recall allows subscribers to phone in toll-free to listen to messages received within the last 72 hours.

SkyTel 2-Way Messaging Coverage
SkyTel 2-Way Messaging service gives you nationwide coverage within most major metropolitan areas in the continental United States or you can select from *Unlimited 2Way messaging available within select coverage zones. You can view coverage by the zone map or by the zip code listing.

  • Error-free messages. SkyWriter® automatically corrects any garbled messages sent to the pager. When in a full service area, the correct message overwrites the original message for the clearest communications.
  • Automatic nationwide roaming. SkyTel 2Way Messaging provides nationwide coverage; even if pagers are turned off or subscribers leave a coverage area, the network finds them and sends the stored messages as soon as they return to a full coverage area.
  • Email notification. Subscribers receive notification of e-mail right on their pagers, with a complete display of e-mail sender, subject, and text.
  • News Updates. News and business information is transmitted directly to the pager four times a day and whenever a big story breaks.
  • Toll-free calling. All U.S.-based calls into the Advanced Messaging Network are toll-free, for both subscribers and the people paging them.
  • Flexibility for sending messages. Message senders can broadcast one message to multiple subscribers, prioritize urgent messages and program messages for future delivery for time-zone differences.
  • Ease of use. Every call your customers or their callers make into the system provides step-by-step voice prompts.

Message Sending Options
Callers can:

  • Send a numeric message using a touch-tone phone.
  • Send a voice mail message; the subscriber will be notified on his/her pager and can retrieve the message via a toll-free phone call.
  • Dictate a text message to a Customer Messaging Agent, 24 hours a day. The complete message is immediately sent to the subscriber's pager.
  • Use the SkyTel web site messaging feature. Send email messages via the Internet by sending messages to PIN@mobilemessage.com.
  • Use SkyTel Access® Software from a modem-equipped PC or MAC.

Confirming Sent Messages and Receiving Replies
With SkyTel 2-Way Messaging, senders know for certain when the message was received and can easily check for a reply using these convenient options:

  • Telephone: Whenever a message is sent (via telephone or other method), the Advanced Messaging Network assigns a unique confirmation number to that message. Senders can call the system later and use the confirmation number to check delivery status and/or get any replies from the recipient.
  • Email: When a message is sent via email to a SkyTel 2Way Messaging subscriber, the sender will receive the subscriber's reply at his/her email address.
  • Personal Computer and Modem: Anyone can use alphanumeric messaging software to compose and transmit messages directly from a computer, then use the confirmation number to check delivery status and/or get replies from the recipient.
  • Pagers: Replies can be forwarded to paging subscribers on the SkyTel system: SkyWord®, SkyWord® Plus or SkyWriter®.
